Home and Recreational Safety

Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death in kids 14 years and under. More than a third of these injuries occur in the home. Safe Kids Live and Play Committee is focused on preventing unintentional injury to children in their homes by implementing programs on:

  • Fall prevention
  • Poison prevention
  • Fire and burn prevention
  • Baby proofing
  • Water safety
  • Seasonal safety

LIVE THIS WAY AT HOME ONE STAGE AT A TIME

 Stage 1: Babies
 (0-12 months)

 Stage 3: Big Kids
 (5-9 years)

 Stage 2: Little Kids
 (1-4 years)

 Stage 4: Pre-teens and Teens
 (10-14 years)

The Committee is also focused on preventing unintentional injury and deaths to children who:

  • Play Sports
  • Ride on Animals
  • Ride on ATVs
  • Swim
  • Play on the Playground

Children of all ages enjoy sports, playing at the playground, swimming, or participating in other recreational activities. These activities are a great form of exercise and can also be enjoyed by the entire family. Injuries and fatalities can occur when these activities are done dangerously or without the proper safety equipment.

Safe Kids' educational programs are designed to teach children, parents, and coaches the benefits of playing sports, on the playground, swimming, and participating in other activities safely.
